Reason why I chose this
I chose openings because they could mean many things literally it could be a window or door even a hole but hypothetically it could mean something deeper like feeling or a hidden agenda there is so many things that can be given with this. with this you can create a photo with so many meanings for so many different people that everyone can connect to it. initially I thought about this and I can create photo not based on the actual literal opening but on the feelings behind them like a hole filled with light meaning happy, joy or more deeper a new begging for someone or a opening half full or empty showing what they are feeling depending on what they say a opening just a lighter shade then what is around it meaning a more dark emotion. this is why I chose this.
Lucio Fontana
I chose to research this photographer not because of the formal elements except line with all it does is cut line in pieces of paper now we don't know what he was thinking but I think he was trying to do based on what I see and feel is the colour of the paper represents a personality or something around those lines and the cuts in the paper represent flaws in the personality or how many sides there are to that person with that personality
I am going into detail on this one because I think it says the most it is so simple but very big on the impact it gives with a blank page e.g a new born baby and one line down the middle this could represent multiple things but the one thing that jumped at me is how there are two paths for the e.g. new born baby one good one bad or instead of a baby a adult needing to make a big decision or someone trying to seal the cut with the little bit of dark still there trying to make up for a mistake or dark piercing through making the person bad these are the things I see when looking at this
he wrote the word 'Attesa', meaning 'expectation' or 'hope', on the back of all the canvases with one cut, and 'Attese' (plural) on all those with multiple cuts.
i was thinking i could do something like this but with what the picture shows and write the word in a different language this could help with my final product.

my response
these photos are similar to Lucio's photos with there are openings but I added my own touches with the staples trying to close the openings to fix something to heal.
First photo shoot
of my own ideas
these are the first things i saw when i went out to do my own photos for openings I think i might go for more smaller openings as there are the tiny things in such big spaces which depending on what it looks like could have different felling to them.

new idea
my new idea is taking openings of natural things like a flower blooming or just barley bloomed and the openings of the weather. this is the idea i want to focus more on.
first photo shoot from chosen starting piont
this idea really stood out to me as we don't know all the different plants out there in the world and even animals with all the openings they have. it is a way of exploring the world through different openings with sea life and animals and openings with plants on the surface all these different wildlife options to choose from.
an idea I had when looking at these photos was merging all the photos in to one big photo to make a coral reef this is an point I will explore more.
WWW: most of these images have good lighting and focus and work well with each other
EBI: some of the images didn't have a nice way of taking the photo and don't work nicely next time I will make more time when taking it and trying new things to do.

visiting a photography gallery
for my homework i have to go to a photography exhibition and document it creatively
the exhibition i am going to is at the photographers gallery and it is the TPG new talent where there are selected artist and they will be showing their work with also there are a lot of other exhibitions going on at the time when i am going.
the way i am going to get there

2 day mock exam
for the 2 day mock exam we started with an artist who came in to do a workshop and carry on and document on the second day
the first day
on the first day we had a photographer come in bill Leslie who showed us that play can be serious.
What did you know about Bill Leslie's practice before the workshop?
that he has made interesting things with the relationship between film and photography and has used programs to create objects that are very unpopular
What kind of art does he make and what is he interested in exploring?
he likes relationships between photography and other areas of art with drawings computer generated objects
What expectations did you have about the workshop?
i had the expectations that it would be very fun and exciting and i would do something interesting
What were you hoping to learn?
i was hoping to learn how he did his work and what he uses and everything like that not doing something related to how he does his work
How did you feel beforehand?
beforehand i felt calm and ready to do something creative
What did Bill say about the way people usually make photographs?
he said that people put a box around the world and composed what is in it
What did he want you to try to do differently?
instead of thinking how the picture is gonna come out just video something and use that as influence
What was your team's role - disrupting the cameras's view, making a floor-based structure, experimenting with textures or populating the structure with objects?
my team role was experimenting with textures and in the team i made a flag pole that had all different types of textures on it
What kinds of materials and tools did you use - torches, cardboard, fabric, paper, plasticine, iPads/iPhones, bridge cameras, camera obscura, DSLR, digital projector etc?
to make my flag pole i used a duster a plastic bag and some cloth and it turned out very well we also used torches cardboard and most of the things to make and complete the stage
What kinds of pictures did you make during the workshop - still/moving, documents, portraits, experimental abstractions etc?
i made slow mo videos and time lapse videos with some still photos as well as normal speed videos
What activities did you take part in on the day?
one activity i am happy to do was waving my flag pole around for people to take pictures and videos of
What was new or surprising?
something surprising was that we took a lot of videos than pictures something new was creating something in real life instead of on the computer using photoshop
What did you find challenging?
staying focused was challenging due to the way there was no order to anything that was happening and it got confusing
What did you enjoy most?
the thing i most enjoyed was waving my flap pole around as it was just fun
What connections have you made between the experiments in Friday's workshop and your chosen investigation?
my chosen subject was openings and anything can be related to this with the flag pole i made and the openings i used to create it with also the stage we made there was so many openings
How might you use one or more of the ideas from the workshop in your ongoing investigation?
i can make more real life objects and make it on a basis of openings

final idea
a full photoshopped picture full of openings and colours
but instead of just one big picture like this i am going to make multiple and either make a massive picture or overlay the pictures
this picture photographed in different ways
New idea
Side by Side
Take a series of photographs related to your chosen theme. Print them out (approx. A5) Stick them on a flat surface and carefully re-photograph the join between the two images so that none of the surface is showing in the frame. Re-print and repeat several times.
I am going to stay at a single location and take a picture when someone is making a opening e.g door, chair, stairs.
or following a person around taking photographs when they make a opening.

I also like the fact that some of the photos are over exposed and it adds some new factors to the meaning of openings in those photos
Now I am going to combine the two things the overexposure and the door opening sequence
Not a lot of people that overexpose their photos but Jim Richardson a national geographical photographer has done some but not a lot and they all use the openings as well
Even though this is of a castle and the overexposed light is shining through the windows it also shows how something so old is still looks good with it shining on all the cracks and crevices in the wall also with the old book showing all the folds and that the only thing modern is the flowers that you can barley see to me says that we should look on our past to create an new future this is the only one I found but it does say a lot.
Now that I am going on to the opening over exposure technique I can use a lot more things like windows doors cracks anything that can let light through
Plan
.Your main idea(s) related to your theme?
Overexposure with widows and cracks.
The equipment you intend to use?
I intend to use a DSLR camera as I can change the shutter speed and iso.
The materials you intend to use?
The only material I am going to use is paper.
The techniques/processes you intend to experiment with?
Overexposure with the shutter speed and iso and maybe the ratio.
How these experiments relate to your chosen theme?
As I am going to so these experiments with windows and cracks.
What you hope to learn by making this work?
That I know how to change the settings on the camera well depending on the surroundings.
Ideas about the scale/size of the work you hope to make?
Either a chain of images or a mirage of images or both together.
Some initial ideas for the type of work you hope to make?
Something kinda like a photo book but not completely a photo book.

essay
In this photograph I see a man standing still with no emotion in a room i believe is his kitchen but could be a office area with the room mostly white except a big bold green plant on the right side of the image with the light on the ceiling overexposed and there is a sort of frame around the picture which I think is the frame to the window from the outside. There are only a few things I recognise in this photo but because of the focus I can't be definitely sure I am correct as in the background it looks like a microwave and other kitchen appliances and of course the big green bold plant. This photograph reminds me of me walking and just seeing into people windows and what they are doing. I think though this image is abstract in the fact it would be natural if the person in the photo was doing something and not just standing there it is also abstract due to there only being one thing of colour which is the plant. The formal element that seems to be most important is light with it filling the room up brightly and the only dark part is the frame from the outside, the lines in this photo seem to be straight all the time and not organic the only organic thing in the photo is the plant with also the shapes seem very regular and again the plant is the only thing that hasn't got any regular shapes the colours in this photo are very bland except again for the plant, and again but now with textures with everything seems smooth but that plant has something gritty about it.

It seems to me that the photographer has slightly overexposed the photo due to the lights seem to be radiating and in doing so it has overexposed and made the photo brighter than it should be, but with also the dark border shows the photographer is outside and it does seem a bit stalker(ish). The space in this photo is a bit different to normal photos with the foreground and background are blurry and the middle ground is the only thing in focus but there are only two things in focus the man and the plant but usually it is the fore ground in focus for a photo in my case, but is also very cramped in there with it seems he has no room to move. In the sense of time it seems it stoped in this photo and the photographer has just taken a photo of a frozen man. Focus in this case is just weird with that it should be only focused on one object but this photo has two things in focus the man and the plant, I think that the black border thing is a way of telling the person looking at the photo that he is outside and in doing so has framed it quite nicely at the expense I think of cropping something out. With it also going from 3d to 2d it makes it seem everything is on one plain and the only depth you can see it how far the back wall is. This picture compared to real life is strange as no one on their right mind stands in a room doing nothing except for just staring out the window as in real life a person would be doing something wether they are cooking or working they are doing something. There is apart of the photo which strikes me as interesting the plant and it just seems out of place just why is it in a room where everything is white what is it doing there what purpose does it pose. If the photographer was here I would ask him why he decided to take that photo? Through some research I could discover the reason for this photo and if there are any others like it but as far a I am aware this was a project to see what people did at night and their lifestyle you could say. If I could title this photo i would call it crammed as to me everything is crammed in the photo in that space and the only other name I could give it would be green as there is a massive green plant on the right side of the image. The main theme is openings but you could give it a unusual portraiture as the guy is just standing there staring into space. If I had to live in this photo I would be panicked as everything is everywhere there seems to be no organisation and I just won't be able to move. In the project of the photos I have seen everybody is doing something and this guy is doing nothing so it will seem out of place against the rest and I think that is why he took the photos. If I was to be honest this photo doesn't actually remind of anything as I have never seen anything like it, it doesn't remind me of anything. The slight overexposure of the photo is effective as it makes the white very bold against the only thing with colour, the dark border around the image doesn't work as it doesn't show all of his room and what it is like. The thing worth remembering is the green plant with it standing out against everything my eyes just was drawn to it.
two possible final projects
Option 2
I used the image and just added different colours and I am thinking that I can print them out tick them side by side and shoot a video.
For me this is different as I don't often take videos and I have never done it for a final project.
These screenshots are from the recording but instead of doing a recording I am making a big piece combines the same photo with different colours as when you watch a recording you cant take a better look at high quality so making a big piece I have made a little version as a trial run to see if it can work.
this is what I used to make the big piece and the little piece
Project Evaluation
For this project I explored the idea of openings as there is a vast spectrum defining the word opening. At the begging of the project my first thoughts were about literal openings but also understood about hidden openings in pictures (ex. A opening within a opening) and wanted to explore that first. During that time of trying to make photos were there is a hidden meaning I looked at Lucio Fontana who all he did was cut pieces of paper but the impact on the many different interpretations there are about his work I found out about this artist when I did a basic search for openings on google and one of his pictures came up. So I had the idea to kinda do the same thing but with a different method instead of a simple cut I used other instruments to make holes in paper but it did not have the same impact than his did however the reason I think it didn't work was because I had no emotion going into it I did it as I though it would look good. So after that experiment I decided to take random pictures of any openings I noticed but again had no luck with finding a final project as the paper experiment had no hidden meaning to it and the random pictures didn't give me any ideas for a final project. As a sort of epiphany I decided to go to a gallery and see if they had any kind of openings there and I noticed some pictures which included light and used to make a blank opening also some about natural openings and sort of chested as school doesn't have anything natural so I look in a book and found so many different openings in plants and the formations they made. The natural openings didn't wrk out as there was nothing I could do to make it look better. The lighting of the images creating openings I did forget about as we had a artist come into our school and do a work shop with us. In the workshop we made a lot of different things but I am mostly proud of the flag I made when we did it as it stood out from most of the other stuff that was there. After the workshop I got bored and decided to mess around on photoshop and the result was worth it as I made a completely digital opening with using the pen on photoshop you can draw so I drew all over a blank page and filled in the spaces with colours creating a almost psychedelic image which was and option for a final project but could not make it happen as the things I wanted to do the school did not have so I had to scrap it. After this I remembered about the lighting in photos and used someone in my class to open doors and as he did that I took a photo but I changed some of the setting on the camera to give it a light flare. Also at the time I had the idea to take photos where a light flare would look good. As I had both of these ideas in my head I decided to explore both options creating a possibility of 2 final projects and followed them until one hit a point where I can't think to do anything to make it look better. Until I chose the one that had the most promise to make something good which was the door opening as I could think of multiple ways to make this look better and the artificial light flares I could not make any decisions that would end with it looking better than the door openings.
